19th February – Five Fantastic Songs

1. CHVRCHES – THE MOTHER WE SHARE

And the winner for the cutest video goes to Chvrches! I appreciate this Scottish trio immensely,  and along with ‘Recover’, this song is set to set T in the Park alight this summer. See a very adorable child, and hear Lauren Mayberry’s pixie-like vocal and the synth-ridden tune here:

2. DINOSAURS ON MARS! – SIGNALS

The start of this track sounds like scenes from an arcade mixed with a salsa soundtrack, however the introduction of some seductive, yet awesomely strong vocals, alters the feeling completely. Well worth a listen:

3. GEORGE BARNETT – APOCOLADE

A watered-down Mika, along the same lines of Fun, comes George Barnett. With a plethora of historical references, the English student inside me enjoyed lyrics such as “Most young kings get their head cut off, But no king held an A Kalashnikov”

4. SERAFINA STEER – NIGHT BEFORE MUTINY

For those partial to a gentle strumming, the first peaceful sixty seconds of Serafina’s opening track to her new album will really fit the bill. The subtle ebbs and flows of waves in the background leading to the introduction of her soft tones is sensational – awesome song.

5. ALCHEMY – CREATURE OF LOVE

For those who are intent on abhorring One Direction, here’s another (better?) boyband to get your teeth into. From Milwaukee, they show a hell of a lot of promise, and give an electric style to their songs, of which you can listen to on their soundcloud.
